In a few words, what is your website about?
Well,basically my website is all about doing a conservative investment in these rough inflationary times on our financial marktes. I specialized in silver because i think that most people don't know much about this precious metal, and especially its character as an industrial metal,which makes it even more interesting as investment.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I really wanted to be on the internet, not just as a consumer, but much more as an active creator, as somebody who contributes something senseful. This was the time when i started investing on the marktes, and i immediatley noticed that the spotlight is everywhere, but on silver. Due to my research i found out that silver is currently strongly undervalued and that made me feel like i had to go out and tell people about this great investment opportunity
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Well,the first website i launched was 2dhifi.com,back in late 2006, which was supposed to become a community for photographers,comparable to photobucket or istockphoto. I did that together with my cousin, who's working as a freelance 3d artist. We bought an expensive digital camera and got to learn a lot about photography. All in all we've done more than 2000 pics which were supposed to be pulished on the beta-version of the website, but in the end everything failed due to our lazy programer.He only created the basic features for the site but when it got straight down to the nitty-gritty,he had to do something else. Just another example for one in a million failed start-ups. Anyways, i guess it was to late for doing a photo community...
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Silver-Info.com is not a very fancy name, and it wasn't supposed to be,the name says enough. Investing is a serious topic and we didn't want to find a blockbuster name for the site.Just cool, and serious and without any emotions. That's what investing is all about.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
Generally it is simple, all the texts are easy to understand and you get to know detailed information on this whole precious metals topic. Most important all the information are free. Other sites easily charge you some bucks every month for the latest news and infos, but Silver-Info.com trys to keep it cool. We don't do it for the money, we do it for the simple reason of getting one important information into peoples heads: Buy silver,you won't regret it in the long-term!
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Our goal is to reach as many people as possible, point them in a direction which promises bigger financial security in these rough inflationary times. There is no intention to sell the site, because we still got lots of ideas for broadening our range of products. In the future we want to establish a discussion board and even more important,a precious metals online shop.By the way, we are still looking for a business angel which helps us to approach this whole task:-)
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Currenty we are definitly investing more time than we are getting money back,but once again, we don't do it for the money, we do it because we love what we do.As long as we see sustainable progress, even if it's just small steps foward, we will continue to work very hard.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
First i would immediateley integrate an online store for precious metals and afterwards i would invest money in employees. Basically people who are familiar with the financial markets. Then we could act faster, especially regarding quick price developments in the market and write about what we would do in this or that special situation. Currently everything is still a bit too static and with more employees we could work more effectively.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes of course,because we got some servers in the basement which can easily keep up with the growing traffic
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
We had absolutely no experience in designing or creating a website and because of our lack of money we had to get into the matter all on our one. Fortunately there are some good programs available today which make the whole procedure easier and faster.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge was and still is the stagnating traffic. We reached a certain level but since a few months we're trying hard to leave it behind us.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I think the internet is all about being linked with other sites and individuals. Link-partnerships bring you a certain amount of traffic,traffic you can count on everyday.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Well, it's definitly tough to keep the website up to date. I had to invest more of my spare time, do more resarch and be more patient regarding certain things.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site is online since september 07 and since then we've made constant progress. We definitly do not intend to give up that fast because we still see a lot of potential in our idea.
How old are you, where are you from , and where would you like to go?
Well, i just turned 20 years, I come from a smaller town in Germany and i definitly know that i don't want to stay here forever. It's definitly my dream to work in the United States and get a job somewhere in the big domain of the financial markets:-)
