Please give us a short summary of your unique focus?
We are a hedge fund with a difference. We searches for value in the worlds poorest countries. Our investment universe includes sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East and the Caspian region.
What inspired you to launch a website about a hedge fund?
Hedge funds have a reputation for not being very transparent. This is largely because they do not want everyone to know what investments they have. We believe it is possible to be transparent without disclosing secrets.
When did you launch your the website?
The site was launched in June 2008. We decided it would be best to coincide it with the incorpration of the Segregated Portfolio Company in the the Cayman Islands.
How did you decide on a name for the Frontier Markets Blog?
Simple really. Danfonds Blog just dosent have the same ring to it.
What makes your site different from other, similar offerings?
It is written by investment professionals rather than RSS feeds.
Do you give any investment advice in the blog.
Absolutly not! Frontier markets are hightly volatile and risky places. We would advise most investors just stear clear of them. As far as investment goes, they are places for experts only.
Do you think it will be a success?
Yes. We believe in globalisation, peak oil and a super cycle in commodities. today's frontier markets are tomorrows emerging markets and futue developed markets.
Will what you do make a difference.?
Only on a small scale. On the investment side, however, we believe we are doing real good by providing capital to places that need it.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Not without spending more on resources for it. We hope it is an interesting site but the subject matter is not exactly on the radar screen of everyone.
What unexpected headaches have you had to deal with?
Getting facts right and writing in as neutral a tone as possible
What has been your biggest challenge?
Using wireless internet to update it.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Well, hopefully that is you guys at the World Website Directory.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Definately, more time consuming than expected but also more rewarding than expected. We had 800 hits the other day!
