Home Depot raises quarterly earnings but maintains negative outlook

A little change in Home Depot's structure paved the way for the company's 44% increase in earnings for the first quarter. However, sales continue to slump as consumers try to avoid spending on home improvement items.

This is in contrast with the attitude Lowe's Cos., a smaller competitor of Home Depot, which announced that the worst is already behind the home improvement industry.
